Hosted by the beautiful, Tracee Ellis Ross and funny man himself, Anthony Anderson, the 2015 BET Awards show has exceeded everyone’s expectations and so much more!
The show kicked off with a mind-blowing performance by Kendrick Lamar who performed fan favourite Alright and had a set on stage which included a police car. Janelle Monaé performed Yoga which included Jidenna, who performed his new single Classic man. Jidenna had fans and fellow celebs on their feet rapping along to every word.
Then moving on to the guy who needs his own paragraph in any article, C Breezy! Chris Brown gave fans a chance to see more of him in this year’s BET Awards and he didn’t disappoint. He gave fans a little piece of his new single called Liquor. He then joined Tyga to perform Ayo and yes yes yes fans around the world went crazy when the intro to Ayo played “I need you. I, I need you”. But then he surprised fans even more and teamed up with Omarion to sing Post to Be. As we already know and should expect all the time, Breezy’s dancing took to a new level. In a sexy all-white outfit, Chris had all the ladies drooling! Chris also picked up the FANdemonium Award and thanked his fans for their constant support. We love you Chris!
There were also performances by The Weekend who surprised the crowd by having Alicia Keys alongside him on stage singing his song, Earned It . Nicki Minaj joined her boo, Meek Mill and performed his track All Eyes on You. Big Sean showed his attitude while performing IDFWU and the Empire Cast performed 3 of their hit tracks; Drip Drop, No Apologies and crowd favourite, You’re so Beautiful. This year, tributes were the main focus. Two memorable tributes also took place at this year’s show. Ne-Yo, Tori Kelly and Robin Thicke performed a tribute to the legendary Smokey Robinson who received the Lifetime Achievement Award which was presented by P. Diddy. Janet Jackson also received the first-ever Ultimate icon: Music Dance Visual award which was presented by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who goes way back with Janet. A tribute performance to Janet was performed by Tinashe, Jason Derulo and Ciara. Janet accepted the award saying, “Twenty-five years ago, we created Rhythm Nation hoping the world would be a better place. But there’s even more to be done”.
And then we will shift to the performance that literally blew your socks off! With no introduction needed we were blessed with a Bad Boy Records performance which included everyone you can possibly think of including Mase, 112, Lil Kim, Faith Evans, Jadakiss, French Montana and Pharrell Williams. This was not just a performance, but a celebration of 20 years! No one saw this performance coming and by the looks of it everyone was more than pleasantly surprised and pleased with it. Definitely one for the books.
With no surprise, newcomer, Fetty Wap had the crowd jumping. He had the crowd on their feet when he closed the show with his hit single Trap Queen. The performance line-up had the crowd and fans watching at home wanting more after each artist performed. Bravo BET, bravo!
